Frequently asked questions.
What is Rules of Adventure Travel Co.?
Rules of Adventure Travel Co. is a full-service travel advising company owned by Woody Rule. I design personalized trips for families, couples, solo travelers, and groups—handling the details so you can focus on the fun.
What kinds of trips do you plan?
I plan just about everything:
Family vacations and multigenerational trips
Couples’ getaways and honeymoons
Solo adventures
Group trips (friends, clubs, affinity groups)
Cruises, all-inclusive resorts, safaris, and more
If you can dream it, we can probably plan it.
Who do you specialize in helping?
My sweet spot is families and multigenerational travel, but I also love working with couples, solo travelers, and small groups who want curated, stress-free itineraries with thoughtful details.
How does the planning process work?
Connect – You reach out and share your travel dates, budget, and wish list.
Design – I research and curate options tailored to you.
Refine – We tweak the itinerary until it feels just right.
Book – I lock in hotels, cruises, transfers, and activities.
Travel – You go enjoy your trip with everything organized in one place.
Do you charge a planning fee?
Most of my compensation comes from partner hotels, cruise lines, and tour operators after you travel. For complex, multi-stop, or custom itineraries, I may charge a transparent planning fee to cover the extra time and expertise involved. If a fee applies, I’ll always explain it up front before we begin.
Why should I use a travel advisor instead of booking online?
You’re not just getting reservations—you’re getting:
Expert guidance and vetted recommendations
Time saved from endless scrolling and second-guessing
Added perks and amenities where available
Support before, during, and after travel if something changes
Think of me as your travel “project manager” and advocate.
When should I start planning my trip?
Earlier is almost always better:
Major holidays, cruises, and peak season: 9–12+ months
Summer family trips: 6–9 months
Long weekends or quick getaways: 2–4+ months
If your dates are sooner, reach out anyway—we’ll see what’s possible!
Can you work with my budget?
Yes. I’ll ask for a realistic budget range up front and design options that make the most of it. I’m not here to upsell you into something that doesn’t feel comfortable; I’m here to help you get the best experience for what you want to spend.
Do you book flights too?
In many cases, yes—I can help with flights, especially when they’re part of a larger itinerary. For simple point-to-point domestic tickets, I may recommend booking directly with the airline and will happily advise on options.
Do you only plan big, once-in-a-lifetime trips?
Not at all. I plan everything from bucket-list adventures to long weekends, city retreats, and quick escapes. If it matters to you, it matters to me.
Do you offer payment plans?
Many of my travel partners allow a deposit now and final payment later. Exact terms depend on the supplier, travel dates, and package. I’ll walk you through your options before you commit.
What happens if something goes wrong while I’m traveling?
You’re never on your own. If flights change, plans shift, or something goes sideways, you can reach out and I’ll help problem-solve with hotels, tour operators, and other partners to get you back on track as smoothly as possible.
Do you help with travel insurance?
Yes. I strongly encourage travel insurance and can provide options from our trusted partners so you can choose the level of coverage that feels right for you and your trip. Insurance is considered an essential component of travel nowadays.
Can you accommodate special needs, accessibility, or dietary restrictions?
Absolutely. I regularly work with travelers who need accessibility accommodations, food-allergy-safe options, or other special considerations. Please tell me what you need, and I’ll build it into your planning from day one.
How do we get started?
Just reach out by clicking BOOK NOW above with your approximate dates, destination ideas (even if they’re vague), and who’s traveling. From there, we’ll set up a quick consult and start shaping your next adventure.
